Overview

A Walking Safari at Bateleur Safari Camp 3 Days / 2 Nights (more days and nights can be added), offer a combination of guided bush walks and game drives, giving you greater flexibility to choose your preferred game viewing activity day by day, depending on your group’s preferences. All wildlife walking safaris are led by professional, experienced safari guides who are armed and they always have an experienced tracker who is their back up on your walking safari.

This safari is offered in more than one location, as we partner with several different lodges that focus on walking safaris as a key activity. We used a Walking Safari at Bateleur Safari Camp for this sample itinerary. Accommodation for this itinerary is in modern, luxury safari tented units. All meals are provided, except on travelling days. Sometimes, activity plans change last-minute depending on the weather or local conditions.

Itinerary

Day 1 Johannesburg to Bateleur Safari Camp, Timbavati, Greater Kruger Park (D)

For this itinerary and tour idea, we have used Bateleur Safari Camp, located in the private Timbavati Game Reserve, as accommodation for the walking safari. We can suggest any other lodge, according to your budget, requirements and availability at the lodges. It can also be done longer, for 4 or 5 days or more.

Check in at the Johannesburg or Cape Town Airports for a morning flight to the airport located nearest to the lodge where you will do your safari. For Bateleur the Hoedspruit Eastgate Airport (HDS)  is the nearest with a 1hr flight from Johannesburg or a 2hr 20min flight from Cape Town. For other walking safari locations, either the Nelspruit KMIA Airport (MQP) or the Skukuza Airport (SZK) will be quoted on, including a road transfer to the appropriate lodge.

Arrival at the lodge is scheduled for the afternoon where you will enjoy a welcome drink before being taken to your room where you can settle in and freshen up. You will meet back at the main camp area and then head out on a game drive.

Enjoy sundowner drinks before embarking on a night game drive back to the camp. A traditional African dinner is served on return to your lodge. (Lunch & Dinner included, if you arrive early enough lunch will be included as well).

Overnight: Bateleur Safari Camp

Day 2 – Bateleur Safari Camp (B, L, D)

After the early morning wake-up call, you will enjoy a fresh cup of coffee/tea and snacks before heading out to the bush. You and the group will chat to your ranger about what you’d prefer to do; for example, bush walk or game drive or a combination of both. The morning will be based on the weather, animal movements and so on. These walks can be anything from 1 – 4 hours, depending on the fitness of the group.

After lunch and some relaxing time at the swimming pool or a siesta, it’s time for the afternoon and night spotlight game drive, which will bring you in to contact with nocturnal animals such as Bush babies, Civets, Genets, African wild cats, Porcupines and so forth.

Return to the lodge to freshen up for dinner.

After a sumptuous dinner, enjoy some quiet time with the sounds of the bush beneath the starry African skies or chat to your guides and fellow guests about the day’s sightings and plans for the next day’s activities. (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner included).

Overnight: Bateleur Safari Camp

Day 3 – Bateleur Safari Camp – Johannesburg – Last Day (B)

An early rise this morning to ensure you don’t miss anything on your last day of your meandering walking safari package with a final bush walk. Breakfast is served once you arrive back at your tented camp, after which you will check out and get ready for the road transfer to either the nearest airport or your road transfer back to Johannesburg. (Breakfast included).
