Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival – Benguerra Island

Arrive at the Vilanculos Airport and transfer with a short, scenic helicopter ride, which sweeps you out over the turquoise shallows over the Bazaruto Archipelago, to Azura Benguerra.  From the air you experience a first glimpse of shifting sandbanks, coral-fringed islands and the long curve of Benguerra’s beaches.

Azura lies on Benguerra Island, the second-largest island in Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago, covering roughly fifty-five square kilometres and lying about fourteen kilometres offshore from the mainland coast. Here you settle into your villa, stroll along powder-soft beaches and ease into island time as the late afternoon is spent at leisure, perhaps with a cocktail in hand while the sun sinks into the Indian Ocean and the first stars appear above this remote tropical sanctuary.

Overnight:  Azura Benguerra (Dinner)

Day 2-4: Benguerra Island (Full Board)

During your stay at Azura Benguerra, all meals, local beers and spirits, as well as a selection of house wines and standard cocktails are included. A Land Rover island drive, the use of snorkelling equipment, a sunset dhow cruise, and non-motorized water sports such as kayaks and paddleboards are typically offered on a complimentary basis, leaving you free to decide each day whether you prefer active exploration or uninterrupted relaxation along the beach.

Additional activities, available at extra cost, range from specialist guided excursions and island-hopping boat trips to reef snorkelling, scuba diving and courses, deep-sea fishing and indulgent spa treatments. The surrounding marine national park safeguards seagrass beds, coral reefs and sandbanks that attract turtles, dolphins and a remarkable diversity of reef fish, while inland dunes, freshwater lakes and woodlands host varied birdlife. Together these habitats make Benguerra Island a true tropical sanctuary where you can experience Mozambique’s coastline at its most pristine and unhurried.

Day 5: Departure (B)

After a final unhurried breakfast overlooking the Indian Ocean, there is time for one last stroll along the beach or a quick swim before you bid farewell to Benguerra Island. Depending on your flight schedule, you might simply relax on your private deck, take a few final photographs of the shifting sandbanks, or enjoy a short snorkel close to shore, savouring the warm water and the quiet rhythm of island life one last time.

You then board the helicopter back to Vilanculos, savouring sweeping views over the Bazaruto Archipelago, before connecting with your onward flight to Johannesburg.
