Overview
On this seven-day tour, you’ll get to encounter two African wonders! You will return home with great memories and experiences, more than you will know what to do with. Start in the Mother City – Cape Town. You’ll discover the mysteries of Cape Town; take in the spectacular view from Table Mountain, bustling harbour, world-class beaches, top-notch vineyards and Robben Island.
Then explore and experience the power of the mighty Victoria Falls. Victoria Falls is not only one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World; it is also an official World Heritage Site. Defined as the world’s biggest waterfall when measured by the sheer volume of falling water, Mosi-oa-Tunya has thrilled people for centuries. You will experience it almost exactly as ancient tribes did since there is very little building or development around the falls. This unspoilt beauty is what makes the experience so special: you easily imagine what it was like for those explorers seeing it for the first time.
Itinerary
Days 1 to 5: Arrive in Cape Town – Victoria & Alfred Hotel, V&A Waterfront
On arrival at the Cape Town International Airport you will be met and transferred to the Victoria & Alfred Hotel, ideally located in the V&A Waterfront, for your 4-night stay. With plenty to offer the traveller you should never get bored in Cape Town. The Victoria & Alfred (V&A) Waterfront is a prime attraction in the city, a working harbour and tourist attraction offering world class shopping, a huge variety of restaurants, cafes & bars and the Two Oceans Aquarium. The ferry trip to Robben Island, the site of Nelson Mandela’s incarceration for much of his 27 years in prison, leaves from here.
Table Mountain is the iconic backdrop of Cape Town rising over 1000m above sea level – it can be seen from all over the city. Taking the revolving cable car up to the top is a must or if you’re feeling adventurous there are several hiking routes to the summit.
The park-like botanical gardens at Kirstenbosch, Cape Town’s beaches and the city centre with its outdoor street markets, boutique shops & stylish restaurants are all added attractions. Just a 45-minute drive from Cape Town and you’re in the scenic mountains and valleys of the Winelands.
For the more adventurous visitor there are activities such as canoeing, 4×4 trails, horse-riding, hiking, mountain biking, rock pool swimming, abseiling and kloofing (time permitting).
Overnight: Victoria & Alfred Hotel
Days 5 to 6: Cape Town – Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
This morning you will fly from Cape Town to the town of Victoria Falls, in Zimbabwe. Transfer to the Old Drift Lodge, which lies upstream of the iconic Victoria Falls, on the banks of the Zambezi River. The lodge boasts luxury accommodation overlooking the pristine Zambezi National Park, a mere 7km (4.5miles) from the mighty Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Old Drift Lodge is nestled within a wild paradise frequented by elephant, buffalo, and herds of sable, eland, zebra, giraffe, kudu, waterbuck and impala. The main lodge area has 360 degree views, north facing onto the Zambezi & South facing onto a water hole. A 7km (4.5 miles) stretch of river flows between the camp and the town of Victoria Falls, making Old Drift Lodge the closest lodge within the National Park to Victoria Falls. Enjoy a morning tour of the falls followed by lunch at the Lookout Café, which is perched 120meters (400 feet) above the turbulent rapids of the Zambezi River. The café overhangs the spectacular chasm of the Batoka Gorge, just down from the iconic Victoria Falls Bridge, which forms part of its backdrop. (Note: a 2 night’s stay in the Chobe National Park can be added to this itinerary before or after the Victoria Falls visit).
